If Walt showed up where Portia is now, and she is where “The Butcher” is (as she has apparently been “butched”), and Walt is there because Portia told him where to go…then Portia knew all along?
My thoughts turn to Rat Security. With all their cameras they may have gotten there first. It’s common knowledge they take no prisoners. Firefight erupts. Civilians caught in the middle. Walt gonna be pissed off. Now how to deal with a 500 pound drunk angry bear. The firefighter’s eyes say it all…….Stay tuned.
Anyone else notice that Walt is semitransparent in panel 3? Only Walt, not any of the other bystanders. He might not really be there. Portia might be hallucinating him. (Sure would be nice to know just what was in that note!)
All right, we keep building up Mayor Walter’s wrath, shaking his laid back (live and let live) temperament, hacking at the very centre of his sense of justice… Am I the only one who’s getting impatient to see this inevitable coup, with Walt as its leader, happen?
If Portia did know how the conspiracy worked, and thought she would not be a target—then when she got a parcel containing knockout juice she would have thought she became a target and maybe went to confront the killers about it. Which…wouldn’t seem to be the best idea.
Things in this comic have been so gloomy and hopeless for so long that I find it rather hard to care when something like this happens, I’m not trying to sound heartless but you just know SOMEONE in going to die here. “Darkness induced apathy” is the term.
If Portia becomes the sacrificial lamb (er pig) who dies to expose the butcher, I would not want to be in Jake’s fuzzy bunny slippers when the former mayor comes calling… ;-)
The look on Doc’s face Wednesday said it all. He’s off to find people he might be able to save. Portia already has one foot out the exit door. Come to think of it, that may have been the first hard evidence we’ve seen that Doc actually has eyes… ;-)

I suppose his reaction depends on what she said in that note.

In panel 2 the fireman is questioning the doc leaving Portia in his care. Why?. . . triage, there are more wounded, it is his duty to go to them.

Well, Doc Chase did say to keep her talking. Now that Walter is here, she can explain what just happened…
Hopefully…

The fact that we can’t see his face worries me

That’s a very large puddle of blood in panel 4. Ominous.

Portia: “Like I said in the note, I think we should see other people. Right now, I’m seeing a fireman. How about you?”
