The only â⊠for dummiesâ book I have is Japanese. Thought itâd be more helpful than the two other books I got at either Barnes/Noble, or Powellâs (in Portland, Oregon), or one at each place.
20 years ago, book stores had a large section of I.T. books. But, I.T. people learned on-line stores had even bigger selections. Going on-line, they could find books more finely tuned to what they wanted. Now, the I.T. section in a book store is tiny.
I used to get Dummies books all the time. Theyâre great for getting started in a subject, I particularly appreciated them when I was learning to code. I must say, though, I donât care for the Spanish for Dummies, but when you consider the hundreds of titles (and authors), you canât expect them all to be winners.
Note, I did say âfor getting startedâ. They are, as far as I have found, strictly for beginners. And every one Iâve read starts out with âyou arenât a dummy, and you can learn thisâ, or words to that effect. If you already have some knowledge of the topic, donât bother.
I remember when I guy I worked with purchased a book filled with web page addresses, basically saying that Coca-Cola was at http://www.coke.com/, that kind of thing. Thick book. I wonder how many of those URLs are even valid today? Considering that was the mid- to late-1990s, Iâm guessing most are gone. Iâm lookinâ at you, AltaVista.

Face it, Jason. You are left out of this culture. You are intelligent. Most other people are dummies. The rest are morons and idiots.

Jason seems hung up on the C Programming language. I wonder if the author has any familiarity with it.

23 comments and not one of you noticed the special guest stars.
And as a former librarian, I can state with authority that there are not enough books in the âX for Complete Idiotsâ genre.
