When I was his age (here we go again) popcorn was 10 cents, Milk Duds were 20 cents, soda 10-15 cents. The first movie I ever went to by myself at about 8 or 9 (just down the street) cost 12 cents. Today I never buy food at “regular” theaters, but at my favorite indie films theater popcorn is only $2 (used to be $1).
$5 wouldn’t even get a matinee ticket these days (context in my area that’s about $7) $10 isn’t enough for an afternoon or evening ticket, and if you wanted any food or drinks WITH a ticket $20 is nowhere near enough…maybe you could get a small popcorn or one box of candy.

It will be hard for the other viewers to hear the movie as Peter loudly munches on all that food.

Why don’t you just skip the movie and go straight to the next supermarket?

Sorry dad but Peter does not have that vivid an imagination! No teenager does!

The key word here might be borrow. Does dad really ever expect repayment?

It would be cheaper to just go to a fast food joint.

You need at least $10 for only the ticket in most theaters. More if it’s 3D.

“No theatre does that, Dad.”

Theaters make their money on concessions, they might not even break even on tickets.

I guess the guy at the theater in yesterdays Peanuts strip wasn’t lying when he told Sally it was two million dollars for a ticket!

Five bucks will get him popcorn and a soda? checks original strip date Oh. Well, enjoy Batman Forever.

Never been to a movie theater that made sodas. The ice cream in the soda would make for real treat, though. They do usually sell pop, too.

He can eat before he goes. And pay with his own money.

By this time I would have said let’s not give any money and say I did.
