Alice: Why did Grandma give you an epergne? Mom: I'll bet she found it in her house and didn't want it. Grandma's house is stuffed to the rafters with things she doesn't want, or even know that she has. Alice: Petey says the lost treasure of the Incas is somewhere in the back of her kitchen drawer. Mom: Or in the basement in a box marked "roller skates."

Do you think Petey will bend that epergne into the shape of as robot?

Their problem is, all the best treasure is in the attic in a dark corner. Basements are cool too, though.

Richard’s seen my basement. There’s a box marked “assorted” that I won’t open because it’s more fun to imagine what is in there.

This sounds like my house. I have stuff in bags and boxes that I’ve moved from house to house but I have no clue at all what it is. For all I know I might be taking the garbage.

I have been telling my kids they need to find a good auctioneer when I die because I don’t think they have any idea what all my collections could bring. I hope they will want to keep some of my own paintings for themselves but some of the art by others is worth a great deal, and an art deco chandelier of solid crystal, onyx and brass is one I really love…

Grandma needs to contact Sotheby’s, never mind Hoarders! For all we know she has dinosaur fossils in there

I’ve promised my mother that when she dies, I’ll move into the house and take at least a year to sell her stuff… in her case, it is organized chaos. The basement is full floor to rafter with little pathways between the boxes, but she has an inventory of it all in excel with purchase price and value (as of the last time she priced it which could have been 20 years ago!). She also keeps a file of comparable items sold on ebay in a handy-dany 3 ring binder… I think my dad hides cash under the floor boards. I’m going to have to rip appart the house and sell stuff one bleeep thing at a time… then, maybe, I can actually retire on all that stuff! No way I’ll be able to retire on my salary! (ok, I make a good amount, but retirement is expensive!)
