In my teens I was curious about how divining rods worked, so just for fun I decided to give it a try. I used 2 wires made from old coat hangers and didn’t expect anything to happen as I walked across our back yard, but about half-way across the yard the wires started moving on their own and ended up crossing each other. To this day I don’t know what happened, I just know that I didn’t do anything to make the wires move, in fact I was trying to hold them straight, but they moved and crossed just like that.
Back in the 1970’s I worked for my uncle at his construction business. He uses two copper rods to find things like buried gas lines. He gave it to me to find one. At first it didn’t work but eventually it did. I tried it several times and kept hitting the same place. So our backhoe operator dug carefully and there they were right where they crossed. I was skeptical, though more so now. However I cannot think of anything that would allow me to find them. I had never been there before or since. All I was doing was locating it.

If your divining rod was made from Wiley’s peg leg it would run away from water.

Not to start a whole Trump thing, but this reminds me of Trump (except that he didn’t fire the stick by tweet).
