I programmed GPS to take me to a hotel I had booked on a road trip. It directs me off the interstate, then starts down some side roads – which I thought was odd because most hotels were right by interstate. I start going down a small road and then notice a group of police in tactical gear starting a raid on a house. One stops me with a flashlight then lets me go. Stop and search for hotel under Hotel menu, it shows same address I entered directly, but when I select it from there it routes me to it properly.
GPS in my car stopped working only $140 to update it, yeah. Got a regular one which is 5X better for $90 with lifetime updates. And yes, I know I can use my phone but I prefer the GPS.
There’s an app you can get for your smart phone that lets you know where traffic is heavy or light. Last year, in Israel, a lot of motorists followed its advice to take a route where traffic was extremely light. Turned out that they all headed to an area where the road was under water (so of course untrafficked), and the result was a massive traffic jam on all the roads leading into the area. I expect that something like that may be going on right now in the Carolinas.
I’ve been lucky I guess since I’ve only once been led astray and that was early GPS where I was looking for the college admissions office and it took me to the top of a parking garage,,,,
It’s also never a good idea to blindly follow what your GPS navigation tells you. The one I use has saved my bacon many times, but if I can plainly see that it’s wrong, then I don’t follow it.
That would get me home, at least. A whole flock of Canada Geese roost in the field across the street from my home. (Except that I don’t use a GPS system….)
