I once had to tether a dog named Tiger. He could be ferocious. But, he was also a great escape artist. But, I didn’t actually “chain” him, but used a thin steel cable tied to another horizontal cable. This way, he had access to almost half the backyard including the back porch. Since Tiger, who died, I’ve never had to tether a dog.

I had a friend with a dog he kept on a chain, he took the chain off for a week, and the dog stayed within the circle.
