It’s scary…. even food proudly “Made in USA” can have foreign ingredients….
some of which could be unsafe.
One of my pet peeves is that labels often say “Distributed by” a US company… without telling where the food is grown or made.
The pet food scandals, 10 years ago, were about food made in the US and Canada.
But the manufacturers had, in good faith, bought a contaminated ingredient from China….
After the food sickened and killed possibly thousands of pets
it was found to contain melamine … poisonous to mammals, which was finally traced to Chinese wheat gluten.
A common protein additive, it’s tested and priced according to its protein content.
Well, unscrupulous dealers in China had added traces of melamine,
because the “amine” component made the gluten falsely test higher for amino acids… ie protein…. and it sold for a better price.
To complicate matters… a few little known companies actually do the manufacturing for a lot of different brands….
This time it was Menu Foods…. unknowingly using melamine-contaminated wheat gluten in brands ranging from store generics to super premium ones like Blue Buffalo,
each made according to its own company’s proprietary formula…
but all containing gluten that ended up killing pets….
leading to huge lawsuits, and to damaged or destroyed reputations of the surprised companies.

9 Lives is the only cat food my kitties will eat. They will literally go hungry with that other stuff. They like wet but prefer dry.

No, from where do the ingredients come. I lost a cat because she was poisoned (murdered) by the Chinese and their melamine.

Oh so true. We feed our pets kibble but a lot of baked chicken as well. No health problems. And not much more than fancy canned food.
