I suppose there is a lesson here. Something about judging books by covers or some such. However, that whole lesson learning thing is over rated. It is often more about how your perceived than how you perceive yourself. Whether we like it or not, our appearance affects how others treat us. I am not defending this view, just stating the obvious. People won’t know how nice you are until you are nice to them.
About a month after the shepherd-retriever mix I grew up with crossed the Bridge, I was walking in my neighborhood and saw a squirrel wandering around. Impulsively I looked up and said, “Jake! Squirrel!”
And damned if 30 seconds later, the squirrel didn’t jerk his head up, look behind him for a moment, and then make a beeline for the nearest tree.
All of ours barked when their was a reason, door bell, paper boy, FedEx and UPS (Alex, our big black Lab hated and I mean hated FedEx and UPS….he was however, fascinated with the garbage men and their truck. He watched in awe as that arm came and got his garbage can, dumped it and put it back. LOL They made the movie Marley 8 years too late as he was the original Marley (man did he destroy stuff in the begining). Our vet told us the first year with most Labs is a nightmare. Funny as our last furbaby, Buddy Max was a yellow Lab and he never destroyed a thing. Then again I was sick then and home with him most days.
