The Mason-Dixon Line was surveyed to delineate William Penn’s land grant (Pennsylvania) from that of Cecilius Calvert, Lord Baltimore (Maryland). Delaware did not exist yet and was part of Pennsylvania. The border did make a 90 degree turn as shown on the map. Later, when Delaware separated from Pennsylvania, a northern border was needed. A compass was placed on Delaware’s capital, New Castle, with the other end on the Mason-Dixon surveyed corner and a perfect arc was drawn to New Jersey. Unfortunately, a slight error was made creating a small plot of disputed land. But that is another story.
Reminds me of one of my favorite Steven Wright jokes: “I’m seeing a Voodoo Acupuncturist. It’s great; I don’t even need to go.”“I’m just walking down the street, and all of the sudden—ack!—‘Hey, I feel better!’”
I have always wondered why people migrate and move north and south of the line but voice accents seem to recognize this invisible line and stay put. If the lazy southern accent is so easy to pick up then why hasn’t it migrated north like the killer bees?
As a species we are omnivores, that’s why the mid-range designation. A trophic level is a measure of organisms that eat other organisms, not necessarily a measure of being eaten.

Dixon: It’s your fault Mason.
Mason: My fault? You were the one that didn’t want to go to New Jersey.

When Delaware was made the first State in 1787, did the boarder makers know of the Mason-Dixon line then?

Wouldn’t New Jersey also be then, according to that map?
