I live in Utah. At the first school at which I taught, only two of us on the faculty were not LDS. (The LDS do not drink coffee, in case you did not know.) So the two of us went in on a jar of Taster’s Choice instant coffee. I’d buy it, and when the jar was used up, he’d buy the next one.
The strange thing was that the coffee got used up faster than it should have with just the two of us drinking it.
In my teens & young adulthood I had good friend who kept both instant and coffee in the house; when he got up, he would start the pot of actual coffee, turn on the hot water tap, then shovel instant into a mug, fill it with tap-hot water, and chug too fast to deal with the awfulness; rinse and repeat until the good stuff was ready.
Even in my most caffeinated periods, I was never that bad.
As I recall from my favourite movie, Sunday, Bloody Sunday, we are introduced to Alex (Glenda Jackson) and her disordered life, by seeing her in her disordered apartment, making instant coffee with hot tap water (and grimacing as she drinks it).

There’s nothing wrong with wearing socks with sandals (prepares to duck).

You can make instant coffee strong, but you can’t make it good!

Instant coffee is good for adding to American coffee to make it taste right.
