That one other weird thing you ’merikans have. In Europe the week usually starts on Monday. Which is in accordance with the bible even though we tend not to be so nuts about religious stuff. Sunday is the seventh day (of creation – or then re-creation?) in the Genesis, not the first.
When writing this, I originally had “Does the President know about this?” as the punchline. Twenty years ago or more, that might have worked. But I suspect that, these days, even for those living outside the US, saying “The President” changes the entire tone of the whole thing. It becomes a commentary about politics instead of about little kids and calendars. If a child thinks that the Mayor should fix a calendar glitch, though, it’s okay and non-polarizing.

On the calendar the week starts on Sunday, does that mean yesterday should have been New Years?

Don’t turn stuff like that over to politicians. In 1897, Indiana legislators tried to pass a law declaring Pi = 3.0 (Indiana Pi Bill.)

If you’d like to hear the original words and melody to Auld Lang Syne try this.
