Feelin’ alright, uh uh, I’m not feeling to good myself.

I know so many people like this. Not long ago I got a phone call from a woman I hadn’t seen or thought about for a couple of years, since I left the group we both participated in. After the ritual of greetings she said, “Don’t worry, I don’t want to hear about all that (why I left), I want to talk about ME.” And she did, for close on an hour. I just sat there going “Uh huh” and “Mmm”. She could have talked to the wall and enjoyed herself just as much, she didn’t need me there at all.

“Motormouth”? !

Today, they’d be wearing masks.

Yeah, I always hope when I explain how bad I feel that I can get some advice how to treat it, instead it becomes a one-upmanship on who feels worse. Every time.

Reminds me of one of George Sheehan’s essays, in which he imagines giving a truthful, detailed response when someone asks “How are you, George?”

My lady and I were upstate visiting her sister last week, and we also had lunch with my old college roommate and his wife. We sat around the table comparing our lists of medications and specialists. Getting old is…interesting.

November 6th, when I was that age the Halloween candy was gone at least two days before (and usually three or four days before). So I’d say it’s some sort of fall bug.
