If Miss Plainwell knew she were in a comic strip on GoComics, she might be even more confused…. especially about Mountain or Pacific time…. even more so in Hawaii.
Comics characters only get to “live” for our eyes during one moment per day.
That means we watch most of them celebrate New Year’s Eve all day on December 31st, not just in the evening.
And anyplace west of Kansas City, we get the December 31st strips before midnight on the 30th….
Tonight they started wishing each other “Happy New Year!” at 10 pm my time…. with a whole day of December left to go.
Wonder if Mr. Spaetzle has a Mrs. Spaetzle to lighten his days. I have a Mrs. who has been my best everything for 56 years and 3 days. She has made every birthday much brighter.
Wow! I like Principal Spaetzel EVEN more than before…. his dog looks an awful lot like my own dog!
I have often said that Principal Spaetzel is my favorite character in “Frazz” the comic strip. It always seems like a great set of panels when he is featured.
His rueful expression about the passage of time is an understandable one that I too, unfortunately share with him.
In regards to Miss Plainwell’s observation, it is an apt one as well. The celebrating tends to occur the evening before, and the day of…. is usually for “recovery”. (hic)
Happy, Festive, New Year to all the “Frazz” commenters!
More to the point, I suppose, is that New Year’s is unique in that so many people spend the holiday sleeping off the celebration to some extent. It’s like Ash Wednesday IS Mardi Gras. Whoa. Very Zen. If kind of a Catholic/Lent form of Zen.

Nowruz in Zoroastrian Persia and even today in Iran is New Year’s Day. First day of Spring. Makes sense to me.
