My problem occurred before the root canal when my dentist gave me a script for amoxicillin, which I found out I’m allergic to.

I turned bright red everywhere except my face, the undersides of my arms, and for some reason the redness on my legs stopped at the knees then took up again at my feet. I looked for all the world like I’d gotten a bad sunburn while wearing dance leggings. And everything that was red itched.

Oh, and I spent five days in the hospital after the root canal because I stopped taking the amoxy the first day I turned red and so wasn’t on any antibiotics for the procedure.

A heart attack then a root canal, ya that’s the ticket to a healthy tooth. :[] Look mom no cavities.

Thanks for putting this out there, Teresa.

It’s very timely for me right now.

I only saw the trailer, but it seems to be confirming worries I’ve been having.

    (And adding new ones!)

    .

This is the second time in the past couple months that FA seems to be listening in on our life.

Don’t think of it as a root canal. Think of it as mini-trepanning.

The Buffalo Springfield had this figured out way back in ’67.

I’ve had one. The procedure itself was long but not painful, but the pain of recovery lasted for months. Will need to look into this.

I should have died several times, but thanks to modern medicine,

I’m still here to bug you.

I’m just putting this out there to add to the discussion. I haven’t seen the film, so I can’t judge it one way or another. But I did find this: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/worse-than-a-root-canal/ – that’s enough to set my skeptic bell ringing loudly. Any time public health fears are based on faulty and debunked research, but are spread by quacks like Mercola for financial gain, I proceed with extreme caution. Another example is the vast amount of “information” swirling around out there regarding the use of dental amalgams using mercury. The “health” industry – and by that I mean those who make money peddling alternative solutions, supplements, and nostrums – have countless websites telling you that the mercury in your teeth is killing you. The FDA states, “The weight of credible scientific evidence reviewed by FDA does not establish an association between dental amalgam use and adverse health effects in the general population. Clinical studies in adults and children ages 6 and above have found no link between dental amalgam fillings and health problems.” Add to this the scientific and simple common-sense evidence that vaccines save millions of lives and billions of dollars in health care costs, yet there is a sizeable percentage of the world’s population that has been taken in by pseudoscientific nonsense spread in mommy groups, around water coolers, and on the internet for economic reason and continue to believe that there is a link between vaccines, thimerosal, and autism. I would be very, very careful with this particular claim.

I’ve checked several sites about mercury amalgam, and this one is similar to the others: “Mercury is a naturally occurring substance, found in air, water, and soil. It also is found in dental amalgam fillings. In sufficient quantity, mercury is known to be toxic to humans. Even so, scientific evidence, accumulated over decades, supports the view that there is no clinical evidence of mercury poisoning in people who have amalgam fillings in their mouths.” Another site said that mercury is dangerous only if you inhale mercury vapor. Teresa is right, though. Why try to save a dead tooth? We have plenty of teeth. Now, seeing twenty commercials a night for dental implants, I wonder about that. Brush and floss, people!!!

Well, I’ve been to Venice in Italy and I can tell you right now that the canals are filthy and the only roots you will see are worm infested and water logged.

Great commentary … I will just add: keep a bloodshot eye on preventive medicine and, in general, be guided by “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” ….

Interesting discussion today. I always appreciate a multifaceted look at things, and Frog Applause seems to evoke this in a most pleasing way.

The body has an amazing ability to heal itself, given the right conditions. Am I wrong in thinking the mouth is the exception? Maybe it is more a function of the conditions, given that it is a primary point of entry for all things foreign and friendly. Hey! Get that thing away from me!

Stop, stop! You’re scaring me. I’ve had some root canal procedures (not at all so painful as the mythology would have it). I’m too young to die!

And if I do, it won’t be from a root canal procedure….
