About three months after Maverick came to live with us, his mistress went to work one morning and didn’t come home for three and a half weeks. Her path home took an unplanned detour to the emergency room, then to surgery, for an acute small-bowel obstruction.
The day she came home, he was so excited and he leaped into her wheelchair to cuddle with her, except he landed directly on her incision, causing some very loud screaming and one very frightened kitty fleeing the scene.
The next day, home health came to change the dressing. Maverick observed the dressing change, presumably saw the scar, and began treading very carefully thereafter when jumping into her lap … and he still does. He was also never much for cuddling in bed at night but started doing it that second night after she came home and does it more nights than not, even nearly six years later.
