Cats do it and so to Hawks. hang out a bird feeder and watch.
If the mice would slow down a little, our hero Scratch wouldn’t have to resort to going after bird. So it’s obviously the mice’s fault.

Scratch, I hope you have a plan “B” because you’re in the ocean in a snow storm and all the edible birdies are WAY south of you.

That is how the cats and large predator birds regard my bird/squirrel feeder…
Same thing with bats and an outdoor light.
Surfer. You obviously don’t have a winter bird feeder.
