Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for January 11, 2011
Transcript:
Mike: Mom, "The Widow Doonesbury," may be gone... but so much of her remains with us! Take this oak farm table here... Mom shelled peas on it, she did her crosswords here, she fed her children on it... Benjy: Fun fact - she was also born it! Mike: Okay, anyone need to hear that? Anyone?
Alabama Al about 14 years ago
Well, Daisy Doonesbury certainly got her money’s worth out of that table.

The table will be passed on to Alex and Toggle…
mrbribery about 14 years ago
She was born on it?
Inconceivable!
HeckleMeElmo about 14 years ago
Will it float?
Only if it has a quack in it.
cdward about 14 years ago
VistaBill, how are they going to fit it into the trailer?
wetidlerjr about 14 years ago
Maybe we should table this discussion…

Way too much information.

Who knew Mike was so squeamish?
Yukoneric about 14 years ago
Did she conceive on it, too???
Nemesys about 14 years ago
Well, that explains Mom’s perpetual rotten attitude. You’d be a crab too if you got table splinters stuck up your behind since the day you were born.
diggitt about 14 years ago
Nonsense, Nemesys! The more the table is used, the smoother it gets. Especially oak.
I asked myself Yukoneric’s question too. But what’s with the squeams about giving birth? Folks, it happened to every one of you!
thirdguy about 14 years ago
Yeah, but not on the same table that people eat off of!!
Dragoncat about 14 years ago
If you look real close, I’m sure Daisy’s smile widened on Panel 4…
Get the feeling she’s enjoying this?

I never thought I’d mourn a cartoon, but hey, I guess we see our own in some characters. :(
SaunaBeach about 14 years ago
Well, I don’t know about the table I use. I’ve never had the ol’ lady give birth on it, but there have been times I’ve been on the other time scale and tried to GET her pregnant to give birth on it. We wipe it off real good before we eat food off of it.
Ya know?
FriscoLou about 14 years ago
Yyyou mean that’s not a grape juice stain?

My Mom was born on the kitchen table in rural Kentucky, 1925. She was born on her parents first anniversary and delivered by her maternal grandmother. It happens.
