What’s the real deal about Uff-Da? The only person I ever heard use it was generally channeling everything he ever heard on “Prairie Home Companion” so I’m basically clueless.
You’ll be lucky if they give the ND’ers a Minnesota accent!
Did anyone here ever watch The Newhart Show? Larry, Darryl and Darryl were supposed to be genuine Vermont backwoods Swamp Yankee boys and I’ll be danged if I know what kind of Ozark hillbilly accent they gave Larry. Sure wasn’t from up here.
Guess nobody out in Hollywood ever heard any of the New England accents ever. (Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire do all have regional accents which are all different to each other when you hear ‘em. And don’t get me started on the Acadian accents…)
I worked in San Francisco at the foot of Broadway. One day in the ’90s I looked out my window and saw a scene from “Nash Bridges” being filmed. Don Johnson was in a gun battle on the Embarcadero. I never watched the show. I never watched “Miami Vice” either. :-)
It’s like all the movies/TV shows set in New Orleans with Southern accents. No, people in New Orleans do not sound like extras from Gone with the Wind!

I almost never hear the phrase “Uff Da” anymore except around my family, and I think Mom is the only one left who uses it regularly

It would have been even better to have gotten a part in the show.
