Chic’s got a hoodlum reputation now! Now he’s cool. This colony is a nice place but it is strict on rules and orders. I don’t think Wally is going to take much more of this restrictiveness.
Another colony with heads firmly up backsides, Wally (and family) going to yet another “hearing”, and an invisible Topsider that’s escaped death/capture, knows where some mutants are, and knows their invisibilty gag has been rumbled .
Hmm. We have two choices. Stay in a place that’s safe, but you hate. Or, return to the dangers of the real world where no one’s reprimanding you for stupid crap. It’s almost like a parable for our times.
I wonder if Chic will be allowed to speak at the hearing since he’s only a juvenile? I hope he tells Wally and Kirbee exactly what happened on the surface so Wally will know what to say and propose the plan of action that Chic (probably correctly) has in mind.
The colony will not likely listen, based on how its organization has been shown to be thus far. One possible outcome of the hearing: expulsion from the colony for Wally et. al. just before it gets obliterated. Shades of Unity Colony.
Who has the recorder now? Does Chic? If ot was taken from him by the authority figure—then potential cover up. If this counts as another black mark against Wally (adding to his employment record) how much trouble will he be in?
I’m a little confused here. The original colony in this comic was deep underground, with absolutely no sign of its existence. Entry was accomplished by little “elevators” that popped out of the ground and then vanished after use.
This colony is on a seaside cliff. I don’t know what’s visible on the top, but the cliff itself is covered with openings, including nice little mullioned windows that must show up very nicely at night. This colony is about as “hidden” as a skyscraper. What’s the big deal about the top of the cliff?
There is a reason kids a re kids – brain’s not fully developed for judgement. ( frontal cortex I think) Article published this week that parts of brain still developing even into early 20’s. Same reason why voting rights, property rights etc withheld until older. Not your fault Chic that you are bird brainined—Irving is failing as your Jiminy Cricket.
Waiting to see the reaction of the authorities to the news that topsiders — or unknown entities resembling them — are operating in close proximity to the colony. If this is met with a blase ‘meh’ and disbelief by the leadership, then I’ll start to suspect that they may know already or may even be cooperating with those entities for some purpose. If the recording turns up missing / blank, even more so — then it’s probably a cover-up.

I guess you have to lock the kids up.

“It’s ten o’clock, do you know where your children are?” When I was a child, that used to be broadcast on one of the TV stations…maybe more than one.

Today’s parents would sue for calling their children hoodlums.

So they practice holding people responsible for the action of others.

Well, let’s see now.

Too bad it’s only in the funny pages where the parents are held responsible for the kids actions

What is the hearing for? What law could have been transgressed that incriminates Wally…or anyone? Not knowing where Chic was at night?

Maybe he can claim that the other kids were just a “bad influence”..

Well, it’s only fair. Possibly revealing the colony to Topsiders is just about as serious an offense as you can get.
