He is heading in the wrong direction with his line of reasoning. My reply would be, “We could put a bomb in her car, take a contract out on her, tie her up and make her apologize profusely, and then put a bomb in her car.”
Taking her emotions to the logical extreme would help her realize she might be overreacting a bit, and that, yeah, stuff happens, but you get over it and move on.
