It’s not that we enjoy others discomfort more these days, we just take more pictures of it and post it on line for our friends to see. Makes it a bit more obvious. The more hits and likes the greater the schadenfreude.
We have another great word. It’s a verb and its name is “fremdschämen”. Its meaning is “to be embarrassed by somebody else doing something incomprehensibly embarrassing, and you wished the ground on which your feet are walking would open and devour you”.
