My cat fights like the dickens when I have to put him in his carrier to go to the vet. But once we get to the vet, he walks in and out on his own. I know he does it on purpose just to show me up in front of the vet.
I used to have to top the carrier up (my son holding it) and lower her kicking & screaming the whole time. She would put a back law one each side to srop.her progression into the box, but we always prevailed!
Try setting the carrier on end and lowering the cat into it, sometimes that helps. Also, to lessen the drama/trauma every time you need to transport, try leaving the carrier out and put something snuggly along with treats inside to tempt kitty in and lessen the fear and association of being taken to the vet.

We had one like that. Ended up surrendering it to the shelter. It became so wild, it ended up on death row.

Put its food, and catnip and benadryl (ha) deep in to the cage first. Call me if you want me to design a safe quick-release trapdoor.

Wrap the cat in a towel to keep it from struggling, then place it in the carrier.
