There is nothing wrong with Basic. You can program as nicely or messy as you want in it and a couple of the modern versions can do anything you can do with other high-level languages.

I find it disturbing that she’s writing in assembly language but I guess we all have to start some place.

Should have started her out with Lisp. Collecting objects in groups comes naturally.

B4A (Basic for Android) should be a little impressive.

My first commercially used computer program was written in Apple ][ Floating Point Basic.Later ported over to IBM PC Basic.

It was also the first program I wrote that bit me in the butt with the Y2K problem.

    That was in about 1982.

This cartoon is a bit flat, but at least it isn’t about Star Wars, Avengers, or Game of Thrones.

My first and only programming language was PL-1. I sucked at it, and had to beg a “D” off my prof to get out of the university. Promised him I would never try programming again, and he let me out with a D.

Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. (I think that’s right). Emphasis on ‘Beginners’.

The really scary thing is that there are board books for babies on computer programming. I have run across them at my former job.

Don’t complain about writing programs in Basic if you haven’t taken the time to teach her otherwise.

20 years ago, for an engineering course, I had to write a basic program to design a coil spring with a certain property, given the modulus of elasticity of the steel, diameter of the wire, etc. Something I would never never need to do in real life. And then, in my work as a luthier I needed to calculate the fret positions for a instrument neck of a given length. So I wrote a basic program to do the calculations. Wish I still had that program, but it was on a 5.25" floppy drive that I lost long ago.
