OK, this story is completely off the rails and we’re barely past week two. Explaining hearsay rules and the Confrontation Clause would take forever, and half the readers would die of boredom, Bottom line: The only way past “sworn testimony” could be introduced in a murder case is if this were a second trial on the same charges, the testimony came from the first trial, and the testifying witness is unavailable. It sounds like that’s exactly what’s happening here, and there’d be no reason for prosecutors not to introduce the original testimony.
But if there’s something else going on and the witness needs to be found, dead or alive, why wouldn’t Tracy just say that to Warbucks? Why don’t the prosecutors ask him directly?
And which old lady hanging around the strip is eventually going to turn out to be Trixie? Haf-and-Haf’s long-forgotten “fiancee”?
1- CHIEF: Hey Tracy. Go see if it’s raining. 2- TRACY: On it Chief. 3- CHIEF: And while you’re out there confiscate a couple of chili cheese dogs from that vendor out front. TRACY: Why would I do that? CHIEF: I think those dogs might be hot. TRACY: Geez you sure you wouldn’t prefer corn dogs Chief? CHIEF: Sorry. I just relish the thought of reducing crime. TRACY: Your jokes are a crime. CHIEF: That’s going in your file Tracy. Look how thick it is already. TRACY: Not as thick as you. CHIEF: What? TRACY: Back in a sec with your evidence.
Geez, where are the Days of Phishface, Hot Rize, Doubleup, Abner Kadaver, Tabby, Blackjack, Jimmy Choo-Shooz,?? none involved these unbelievable crossovers. Off the rails is correct
Looks as if Chief Patton is fixated on getting information out of Warbucks by any means, including subpoena, even if Oliver Warbucks knows nothing relevant to the whereabouts of the missing witness, Trixie Tinkle-Warbucks. I guess the chief doesn’t want to see B-B Eyes getting off on what might be called a technicality. But this is some rather convoluted story-telling. How will the Young Detectives fit in? (We don’t yet know, but it seems certain they have some part to play as the arc continues)….

Good morning™, members of the MCU!
I actually wonder if even a subpoena will produce results. You would think that Warbucks has to know something, but does he?

Anyone want to take a bet that Trixie is actually the mayor of Tracy’s town?

Apparently not close enough to be upfront with Warbucks.

Darn, it would happen in the era when subpoenas became optional for the wealthy and well-connected.
