Actually, frog juice cures nothing, but after one drink the patient never complains about it again.

Is signore Galilei’s blindness another reason the Catholic Church believed the universe orbited the Earth instead of the sun? Mock God’s creation of the universe and you’ll lose your sight? (No disrespect, Catholic “Ripley’s” readers.)

He should have known after losing one eye not to use the other.

Galileo didn’t go blind because of his observations. In fact, he made most of his telescope works way after Benedetto Castelli devised a pinhole projection method to observe the Sun. His first observations were made with the Sun low over the horizon. Besides all the evidence that can be found just reading his works, he wouldn’t be able to observe anything by directly looking at the Sun. How do you explain his detailed descriptions of the Sun and its dark spots? Galileo went blind way way later in his life, his works on Sun spots were published in the 1610’s and his latest works were published in the 1630’s.

Galileo’s mother told him he’d go blind doing that, but did he listen to his mother? Oh, no, Mr. Smartypants goes and does it anyway to SPITE his poor suffering mother. [sigh]

I prefer frog smoothies. 2 cups frogs, 3 cups ice cubes. Blend on med for 1 min. Salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!

He did not go blind by staring at the sun.

“The truth is that Galileo became blind at the age of 72, from a combination of cataracts and glaucoma [see D. Sobel, “Galileo’s Daughter,” (Walker & Co., New York, (1999); p. 354]. This had nothing to do with his telescopic observations of the Sun a quarter of a century earlier, which were initially made only near sunrise and sunset, and later made by projection; in neither case could he have damaged his eyes.”
