Computers changed a lot of things, of course. And I don’t know if it’s worth noting or not, but I think one of the things they did was to usher in the era when memory became became a commodity to be manufactured in bulk and sold to the masses. Before that it was memories that were manufactured, individual by individual, for use and abuse pretty much just by that individual. Though that still goes on, the rare case of something that was augmented by the computer age but not replaced by it.
