I guess this means since the last time we saw these boys together, Lawrence arrived and brought snacks with him.
Gordon wants to be a pilot. Interestingly enough, so did Lynn Johnston, but she could not pass the pilot’s exam.
Mike says he might write or teach. Interestingly enough, (SPOILER THIS PART) those are the professions ultimately taken by Michael and Elizabeth.
Brian Enjo reminds us, once again, that he is an ethnic stereotype. This joke would not work today.
Finally, the boys are going to drop trash on the ground at the same time they are talking about cleaning up the environment. It would imply that they are mocking their own environmental statements or they really have no control over their actions and must litter no matter what their real opinions of littering are.
There should be a crying emoji here. To think that far back and the “our generation” line which didn’t happen. For a good read see" We have indeed been talking about environmental ills for a very long time but have done little while being duped by corporations.https://www.chicagotribune.com/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-indian-crying-environment-ads-pollution-1123-20171113-story.html
And there’s the crux of the human tragedy right there. Even people who are aware there is an environmental crisis underway don’t undertake the simplest actions to help. There is no way there isn’t a bin nearby – or indeed, one of their homes where they can dispose of their rubbish. A few individuals littering isn’t on the same scale as an agribusiness running animal faeces into water or similar, but it’s all part of the problem. I do fear cleaning up the environment simply won’t be done – not before it’s too late. No wonder Lynn didn’t make a comment on this strip – it’s far too distressing.
And those for the environment, why don’t you clean up after yourselves when you have a benefit or a celebration? You leave more trash behind then anyone else. Defeating your own purpose.
