Some years ago I was paying at the supermarket checkout and accidentally dropped some change. A nickel came to rest on edge like that. I was amazed, but the checker didn’t seem to appreciate how low the probability of that happening was. She just snapped her gum with a blank look on her face.

I have a rather large (and by now heavy) turtle-bank full of pennies (and maybe some other coins as well) that was begun by Mom and Dad years ago. It is now so full and heavy that I rarely add any more pennies….

According to wikipedia, about 1 chance in 6000 for a US nickel. Which is uncommon but not SO uncommon that you won’t see it if you wait long enough.
