If this is the ERB story set to comics format, I think we’re seeing an example of what happens when you’re being paid by the word. Killing the guard probably got ERB an additional $50. Actually, I don’t know that he was paid by the word, but many writers were at the time. I finally read his biography today, and it is amazing, and very strange.
