Actually, to see a a stereo-gram correctly, you have to stare wall-eyed, the opposite of cross-eyed. You stand in front of the picture, and set your eyes as if you were looking at something in the distance. If you see it when cross-eyed, then it is reversed in distance compared to what it should be.
