This has got “Enabler” written all over it. Before long she might start believing her own lies.

Everyone assumes simply because something is trash that it is garbage. Or just because it is garbage, it is trash. Or worthless. Or something. Usually, but not always.

One of the many good things about my beloved Agnes is that she does indeed look for wealth where others only look for trash. It can be both.

I am reminded how John David Rockefeller saw all the waste from distillation of petroleum to get kerosene and wondered what he could do with it. The petrochemical industry was born. All the plastics people malign. Petroleum jelly. Asphalt roads. Vision to see what others won’t.

“Prices for vintage glass knobs vary widely, depending on condition, rarity, style, and color. For the most common, 12-sided molded-glass knobs, expect to pay between $30 and $50 a pair. Sets of six- or eight-sided knobs cost between $60 and $100, while a pair of cut-crystal balls can go for as much as $500. Most valuable are red, cobalt, and Vaseline-glass knobs. Such fine knobs were used in mansions at the entrances to formal areas, such as parlors and dining rooms, where homeowners entertained guests.”

“Today, hardware-store-variety glass knobs cost as little as $10 a pair, but the materials and craftsmanship are far inferior to the vintage counterparts.”

You know, if I recall correctly, Agnes’ dumpster-diving did once make some good money. Don’t remember what the object was, though…

A set of glass doorknobs of sufficient age could be worth something, but one by itself, even an old one – not so much, since you would only have one for one side of the door.
