The whole Elf on a Shelf thing seems incredibly creepy to me. We should not be normalising a panopticon for children.

I ran into the same issue when I spontaneously decided to create the Tooth Weasel for my kids….who’s kind of like the tooth fairy, except he also writes long, semi-coherent letters in a very distinctive font and occasionally plays pranks like “drooling” on their quarters or coloring their toenails with a sharpie.
In my defense, I didn’t contemplate just how difficult it would be to keep up with the teeth of five children. Writing apology letters from the perspective of an insane, magical weasel is both sad and entertaining.

Once when I moved to another house (which is my current house), I found our Elf on the Shelf in a moving box. We have a new elf because we’re in a new house, but I never saw Elfie again after that. (Yes, his name was Elfie. I have a elf now named Hannah.)
