I am old enough to remember the bumper stickers that said, “America: Love it or Leave it.” I am not old enough to remember the 1776 bumper sticker that said, “His Royal Majesty’s Colonies: Love Them or Leave Them.”
There was a group of people that did neither: they stayed, they stood and they fought. We have a name for these trouble makers: we call them Patriots.
Nationalism is defending the country. Patriotism is defending its people.
