The effort one takes to achieve a goal lasts longer than the feeling that one has achieved it. But it is that sense of achievement which leads us to the next effort.
Actually, there is, as every marathoner knows, an enormous difference between walking at all normally and walking the week following your first marathon, or any marathon. Did the Apollo astronauts have to go down stairs backward? Did they make noises like old people when they had to get into or out of a chair?? Did the wonder if they’d ever be able to get on a bike again? Did they, metabolisms still afire, actually debate whether it was worth the walk to the refrigerator? Did they gaze in envy upon those aluminum walkers with the tennis balls on the aft legs?
Probably not, and that’s why they had to have ticker tape parades to remind them that they’d just done something pretty epic.

Guess Jef meant VI instead of IX, or is the S missing from the balloon?

Last panel perfectly highlights the mindset of the silly “26.2” sticker twits.
And I just had a thought – is this why Pastis’s holier-than-thou cyclist is “Jef” instead of “Jeff”?

At least with a marathon you can do another one in a few months. Visiting the moon not so much.

Such cool artwork here, with the moon and the shadows. Great stuff.
