I know the feeling… my first job was as an elevator operator and janitor.

(and yes, I know all the old jokes, so you won’t get a rise out of me…)

My second job also saw me cleaning up… washing laboratory glassware at a soil science lab…

My fifth job was making measurements of particle tracks from photographs made in a bubble chamber…

My first job as a NY State employee I got because the slop sink was in the men’s room and the copier was an old wet type. I had to dump the used fluid in that sink. That started a vey fruitful career for me. I went on to spend 35 years with NYS in various jobs and ended as a tax auditor and receive a pension that I never paid into.

I know the feeling of being with people that have have been alive fewer years than I have worked. I can see the term “ancient history” floating through their minds.

My first job after delivering papers and detasseling corn was in Parker Pen ink plant after school. Went from there to a cannery at 50 cents an hour. Other, more interesting jobs followed.

Other than the hint of nihilism, she’s on point.

Those prognostications, based upon trends, change every year. The future that 1939 envisioned for 1960 never happened in our world. Maybe in others. Those ape driven nuclear cars for you and home nuclear energy and of course nuclear powered air and space craft of that glorious future.
