Okay, beginning to make a bit of sense now. But I wonder, is he studying how to do it, or does he secretly want to be a defense attorney? I’m not quite sure if those are law books or umm . . . how-to books.
Interesting that their cart displays their profession; in most portrayals of medieval times, the executioner wore a hood/mask (without having done research, I’m guessing a) to strike fear into the hearts of prisoners, b) to appear as an agent of the government (or death) instead of an individual man, and c) to protect the identity of the executioner, so family of the executed don’t go after him for revenge.)
