I saw two men on TV the other day advocating for the idea of one worldwide timezone, effectively UTC (or Greenwich Mean or Zulu, all close enough). They were convinced that this would be simpler than a world of a bunch of timezones (I’m not sure why anyone needs more than twenty-four). But under their scheme we would just be substituting the need to know the timezone wherever we are traveling or emailing or phoning to for the need to know where the sun is in the sky and when businesses open and close wherever. Just because China has one timezone is no good argument for the rest of the world, and everyone else who really needs one timezone (like airline pilots or the U.S. military) already have one. If it ain’t broke, etc.

If there’s no ‘and’ in there, then you needn’t bother.
