Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for February 10, 2011
Transcript:
Duke: President Bmzklfrpz? Duke here! How you holding up, sir? Man: Hodling up? What do you mean? Duke: Um... your palace. It seems to be under siege. Man: That's ridiculous! Duke: I'm watching it live on Al Jazeera, sir. It's definitely in flames. Man: I don't smell a thing. Which wing? Duke: Can't tell. But it might be time to shuffle the cabinet.

Bmzklfrpz is probably in one of his other 23 palaces.

Well then why did Bmzklfrpz call Duke?

Duke called Bmzklfrpz.
Despots are always the last to know their time is up. You ‘fraid he’s in denial like Mubarak?

This is “Sir”, not the “Majesty” that had called the Dukes earlier. It’s easy to confuse them because while the players are different, the revolutions they’re facing are very similar - one could even say “generic”, especially from the point of view of the dictators involved and the solutions from the Dukes.
Hopefully the winners won’t also be generic, but it seems that the culture in that part of the world creates a strong vacuum that only an oppressive government is able to successfully fill, short or long term. Does it really seem to matter to the people which one it is?

In re yesterday’s (and past days’) discussion:
Thanks, Drome, for the information about Hamlet, but, although entertaining & informative, it is off the subject. You complained about Doonesbury’s not discussing politics the way that you would have, and one could still fault Hamlet for the same thing.
I am glad that you seem no longer to kvetch about Doonesbury not being the strip that you would create. Perhaps you have begun your own strip?
When I get some time, I shall look at A Certain Text. Currently, I have a deadline for another paper at the end of this month. Is the paper beyond its abstract? ha! Do I even remember what I meant by the abstract? double ha!!

Nem, as usual, you are spot on with your comments. The direction of revolutions is not controlled by the moderates; control is excerised from the extreme…. moderates are committed to compromise, not ideology. The Kerensky government (Mensheviks) occurring between the Czar’s abdication and the Leninist/Bolshevik October revolution is an example. Holding ideology more compatible with contemporary Western European Socialists (aka “milktoasts”), the Mensheviks could not hold onto power. Kerensky demonstrated his commitment to the revolution by escaping from Russia dressed as a woman.

Richard S. Russell:
…Desperate, he opened up Envelope #3. It contained a sheet of paper that began with the advice: “Prepare 3 envelopes …”
…and it continued, “don’t forget to give yourself a multi-million-dollar bonus.”
Thirdguy: Al Jazeera isn’t on any US cable system. The people who own the cable networks don’t want you to be exposed to the Unfolding Crisis in Bezerkistan. However, it’s available on the web from multiple sources. It streams live here: http://www.livestation.com/channels/3-aljazeeraenglish and the station’s official website (where you can view programs and read stories on demand) is here: http://english.aljazeera.net/

Al Jazeera is also available directly via satellite feed, and it is not encrypted. I used to flip by it when downloading business-related programs. I would think that Duke Headquarters would be equipped with a steerable C/ku dish capable of accessing all sorts of interesting unfiltered info directly off the birds used to uplink the live coverage.

Bmz… gots the best in the biz.
Boy, the Neocons are are having some problems remembering what being a Neocon is. Wm Kristol and Michael Goldfarb are saying one thing about Egypt, while JOHN BOLTON! and Newt Gingrich are sticking with Mubarak, and then there’s Beck.
To his credit Kristol called a spade a spade I don’t watch FOX much, and have only seen Beck for a minute or two before. Mostly I rely on the Gocomic forum for a FOX update, but ya’ll didn’t said anything about Beck being strung out on crack. It’s just a matter of time before he starts overplaying the barak part of Mu. How can FOX keep him around, after MSNBC fired Olbermann for less than that.
Oh well, maybe Olbermann can get a job at Al Gore’s station.

The revolution is fake. It is being staged and filmed in the same area used for the moon landing scam.
