Last month, I watched a TV news which said a Exeter university found out how to stop seagulls grabbing your food and that is you should stare at them and they would turn away.
However in another TV news in Blackpool a family asked to stare at a box full of chips from a local fish & chips shop which was on the ground but too many seagulls came in and grabbed all the chip leaving the box almost empty which not seems to have worked.
But one reporter at Brighton carried his chip and he looked at the seagulls which seemed to go away. I realised that the seagulls would only go away if you carry the chips and stare up at them.
If you go to the seaside one day and carry your food, try staring at them while walking or sitting but never put food on ground where there are too many gulls around. Stare at one or two gulls on ground is fine.
This reminds me of a few years back on a ferry out of Seattle when I watched a couple of guys (young “adult” males of course) “feeding” the seagulls. They were holding fries (or chips, if you prefer) in their mouths and letting the gulls swoop down and grab them. It seemed to me to be a really good way to lose an eye, or perhaps worse. And no, I never heard either of the guys say “hold my beer and watch this”.
