You talk to him, because he listens. Ask any teenage girl with pet cats or dogs who are the best listeners, and who alone knows EVERY of their secret, and you’ll find the dog or cat does.
Dogs are always better listeners than kids — just ask any parent with kids and a dog and they’ll tell you!
Meanwhile, Elly, tell the kids you’re tired of picking up after them over and over again and if they leave anymore toys, clothes, etc. on the floor, then that must mean they no longer want those things and the next time you have to pick them up, they’re either going to get thrown away or donated to charity — then do it! Guaranteed, after their favorite toy, shirt, etc. disappears forever, they won’t want that to ever happen again and they will learn to pick up after themselves! (Of course, this will work better on a child Michael’s age than it will Lizzie, since she’s only 2 years old.)

My sister has been saying this for years. It’s the drawback of having children.

He may not fully understand the problem but at least he listens.

Because Dad’s working outside the home, and the kids are…kids. And kids are by nature slobs until trained to be otherwise.

Because the dog listens - and because you don’t make the kids clean up after themselves.

They EXPECT you pick things up because you DO pick things up.
Now, if you start NOT picking things up…….
They’ll stay un-picked up because no one will notice EXCEPT you and you will go crazy sooner than predicted.

I hope she doesn’t expect the dog to talk back.
