    The story is fake, and it was invented by Parson Mason Locke Weems in his Life Of Washington. The truth is that the tree fell on his father’s Cadillac (they were, after all, a farily wealthy family).

    Later editions of Weems’ book also included a description of Washington’s reception by angels in heaven after his death.
