Down here in Australia there is a lot of activism for our indigenous, Aboriginal, people. And they should be helped to full equality after what has happened to them in the past. Probably similar to the American Indians although Iâm not in a y way an expert. The phrase âproud coupleâ here struck a chord because virtually every time an aboriginal person is mentioned in the media here they are called âa proudâ such and such Tribe man or woman. Why? Do they have a monopoly on pride? Do some think they arenât proud?I just donât get it.In all areas of activism the lunatic fringe has virtually everyone running scared. And Iâm sick of it.Just treat everyone equally. Whatâs wrong with that?
I think that perhaps the main thing that Aussie is trying to say, or may be implying, is that continually calling the indigenous people âproudâ is sort of condescending, and easy use of words that in the end says more about the namer as trying to look virtuous than anything else. It certainly rings kind of lame to me. At the same time Aussie affirms the value of activism and the costs of history. I think ;)

They may be proud, but Scooter is ashamed of them.

Some people are more equal than others. Then there is the group that is proud of being queer.

Itâs funny how the years have changed the way we see proud people. Now it denotes LBGTQ, something Bob and Shirley have no inkling of.
