I am no hero, but I am far more tidy than any of the women I have lived with.

I used to go to my American girlfriend’s house (big family). They filled the dish washer but half the time didn’t use it as there was no cleaner left. They took dirty plates etc out and used them after a rinse under the hot tap. They let the dogs lick the plates clean so you never knew what you were eating off.
