How did Roger survive college when it came to doing laundry? Methinks if it didn’t smell THAT horrible, he’d wear it… must to the disgust of passers-by.

    1 – They’ll appreciate Mom a lot more. 2 – They’ll learn to do their own laundry.

I was doing my own laundry 20 years before I got married – but my wife still accuses me of not knowing how to operate a washing machine. I’m so sick of the ongoing “joke” that men can’t cook or do laundry.

To a certain extent I am Roger. I was brought up in a household where I was taught that house work, laundry, cooking and cleaning were women’s work and so I wasn’t taught how to do any of it. When my mother died while I was still in high school, there was no one else so I had to figure out how to do things on my own. I made some Roger level blunders before learning enough to get by in the household skill department. But no woman I have ever dated has accused me of doing better than ok at anything except for my cooking.

Why aren’t the kids doing their own laundry? They are all old enough.

The worst part is, Roger sees nothing wrong with his efforts.

After serving six years in the US Marine Corps, and being very recently wed, I took it upon myself to make up the bed one morning. As I walked out of the bedroom, my wife was entering so I told her that the bed was already made up. The exclamation, “HOSPITAL CORNERS?” could be heard all the way to the kitchen.

You are all old enough to know how to use a washer and dryer and what goes in cold water, warm water and hot water. It’s not brain surgery. And if not you should have asked your mom to make up a cheat sheet on how to do it. Now I didn’t have this problem with my dad having worked for a high end laundry in NYC. I learned a lot about machines etc. going to work with him.

Y’know, sweetie, the simple solution is that you could do your own laundry

This is actually what happened when my exwife did laundry. She ruined all my uniform shirts by washing them with her red clothes. I had to buy all new shirts and get my rank sewn on them the same day.
