I put it down a few factors 1. the announcers have no imagination any more – they are all bland as white bread 2. the league discourages the players from showing individuality 3. political correctness makes nicknames dangerous because you never know who you will offendso (showing raiders influence ere)no more 1) the mad stork- kick them in the head Ted Hendricksno more 2) billy white shoes johnsonno more 3) Lester the molester Hayes
Chris Berman tried giving nicknames but when it became a shtick, he overdid it. Still, ones like Oddibe “Young Again” McDowell were pretty good in their own way.
