Bixby: Listen, Jenn Erica, you gotta knock off this whole stopping all crime thing. Jenn Erica: Why? It's easy! I don't know why all superheroes don't do it! Bixby: Because you'll ruin everything! Do you want to take away people's hope? Do you want to stop them from looking to the skies for inspiration? Jenn Erica: If it means no one ever gets mugged again? Sure. Bixby: Okay, but where's the poetry??

This is one of the problems with “realistic” superhero stories; effective heroes would eventually eliminate nearly all crime from normal humans like thieves (aka, Why Superman tends to stay out of Gotham). This is solved by a steady rotation of villains, a rogue’s gallery if you will.

Just shift to an alternate universe, for a new supply.

No Jenn Erica, what you’re really doing is making it so no one has to do anything for themselves or attempt a job that might stop crime. They don’t have to, you do it all.

Poetry? That’s on the Remainders shelf, at the bookstore.

Okay. I am willing to admit to a bit of willful ignorance but, have you all noticed that this strip is 14 years old? I guess I liked the idea that the comic strips on this website were current; however, GoComics is about presenting archival strips online that probably first saw the light of day in print media. Of course, that doesn’t lessen the enjoyment of reading them. Yet, occasionally there are readers who make comments about the strip’s current storyline, thinking that perhaps the artist will read them (I know I did), but how do you expect the artist to respond to comments about a strip written and drawn more than a decade ago? Oh, well. Live and learn, even at my age.
