Be even colder without that layer of snow. And might be worse that just cold without the snow.

Don’t forget the Snow Snakes. A fearsome beast. A bite from one of them will freeze you in place, then the snake unhinges its jaws and slowly ingests you. By spring, not a trace is left, and the serpent is back hibernating in its lair.
