Back around 1948, my parents bought their first house. Mom insisted on buying a dryer, in addition to the washing machine. We had a clothesline, but it was only used in the summer for airing out items.
I am from upstate NY and when I was a kid laundry went outside on the line. But I don’t think there was as much laundry then – it was back in the day of the weekly Saturday night bath so clothes didn’t get changed as much. We also had the wringer washer and a large rotary iron (about 2 feet across – great for sheets) – and nobody thought it was dangerous for kids to be helping out. Things has changed since the 1950s.

works mostly in the summer (don’t know of anyone who puts their laundry out on the clothesline in the spring, autumn, or even winter)

Nothing finer then getting into a freshly made bed when the sheets were hung out to air dry.

Air dry outside is nice when you can do it …. great exercise and fresh air when doing the drying process !

No need to air dirty laundry as it is still dry.

I live in a condo, so I have no way to line dry. Oh how I miss the smell of line dried sheets!!

Nothing like the smell of solar dried laundry.
