Sally stands talking on the phone; she says,"Just a minute...I'll call him..."<BR><BR> She looks to her left and calls,"Hey, big brother!"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown stands at the end of the room as Sally looks at him saying,"The phone is for you....it's Pig-Pen."<BR><BR> She continues,"He said he won a tennis tournament, and he wants to tell you about it..."<BR><BR> Charlie Brown walks by her saying,"I didn't know Pig-Pen even played tennis...."<BR><BR> He smiles and says into the phone,"Hello, Pig-Pen? Congratulations!"<BR><BR> Sally stands in front of him as he asks,"What kind of tournament did you win?"<BR><BR> Pigpen is talking on a payphone holding a tennis-racket, with his trophy on the ground next to him; everything is covered in a cloud of dust. Pigpen smiles and replies,"The Clay Court Championship!<BR><BR>

Of all the many thousands of drawings that Schulz produced, the one of Pig-Pen in the final panel is probably my favourite.

By this time, you were LUCKY if you saw ANY of the earlier "minor"Peanuts characters, like Pig-Pen(who were among the gang of friends that included Violet, Frieda, "Patty"Patty, and Shermy); they all were pretty much “phased out” by now, partly due to Peppermint Patty and Marcie having been permanent members of Peanuts, by now.

I bet the other players coughed and ran away because when Pig Pen hit the ball it was covered in his dust.

A little premature – the clay court season doesn’t usually start until April. They should still be playing on indoor hardcourts.
